Call of Duty publisher Activision has confirmed that the launch of Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 3 has been postponed to Thursday, April 3. This highly anticipated content update is expected to be one of the biggest yet, and Activision states that the additional time is necessary to ensure a high-quality experience for players.
The next season was originally set to arrive in just a few weeks, following the mid-season updates for Black Ops 6 and Warzone in Season 2. While Black Ops 6 players received new maps, game modes, and additional content, Warzone fans were left somewhat disappointed. Ahead of the Season 2 release, Activision had already tempered expectations by announcing that Warzone’s update would feature less content than initially planned. When the update arrived, Warzone players were introduced to only a single new perk, with the company prioritizing gameplay tuning, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements instead.
Activision Confirms Season 3 Delay
With Season 2 offering minimal content for Warzone players, Activision is reportedly aiming to make Season 3 a standout experience. However, the company has now confirmed via the official Call of Duty Twitter account that the season’s launch has been pushed back by two weeks to April 3. In its announcement, Activision described Season 3 as a “big moment for Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6,” emphasizing that the delay will allow them to deliver a more polished and content-rich update. Additional details about the new season are expected to be revealed after Call of Duty: Warzone’s fifth anniversary celebration next week.
To mark the fifth anniversary of Warzone on March 10, Call of Duty has already launched a special Verdansk merchandise collection. However, it appears even bigger news may be on the horizon. Activision has previously confirmed that Verdansk, the original Battle Royale map, will return in Spring 2025, though a specific release date has not yet been provided. Given the abundance of leaks and speculation, many expect the iconic map to be reintroduced with the launch of Season 3. This may explain why Activision is referring to the upcoming update as a “big moment” for the franchise.
Leaks Suggest the Return of Iconic Operators and Weapons
Recent leaks surrounding Season 3 indicate that several beloved Modern Warfare operators and weapons could be making a return to Warzone. Since each mainline Call of Duty installment integrates fully with Warzone, weapons and operators from older titles are sometimes removed from the free-to-play battle royale. Currently, players can use content from Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, and Black Ops 6, while assets from 2019’s Modern Warfare remain unavailable. However, if the leaks prove accurate, operators such as Roze and Mace may be returning alongside Verdansk, as well as fan-favorite weapons like the Grau 5.56 Assault Rifle and HDR Sniper Rifle.
With Season 3 shaping up to be one of the most significant updates yet, players eagerly await further details on what’s to come in April.
